Your next app is
already being complained about.
Every 1-star review is someone who wanted the product enough to try it, and did not get it. Underserved reads those reviews across both stores and every country, and shows you where the demand is going unmet.
Start with any App Store or Google Play link — a rival, a category leader, or an app you think is coasting.
No store login. No console access. We read public data only — what we never see, we can never leak.
One app, read end to end
Every score, theme and quote below is queried live from our own database. This is the whole output for a single app — not a mock-up, and not written by hand.
This niche is absolutely winnable: the incumbent is a rushed AI-generated app with a bait-and-switch paywall, broken phone verification, no actionable advice, and proven privacy violations, while users are eager for a genuine facial-harmony guide. A transparent, ethical, and reasonably priced challenger that shows an honest score up front would capture the same viral curiosity and all the frustrated 1-stars.
What users keep complaining about
Grouped from the public reviews of this app. Every theme is a summary of what reviewers wrote, and the quote under it is theirs.
“After first scan it gives you a fake score of 91.3 and gives actionable things to do but its all fake. Once you say no to pay and hit back gives you real harmony score.”
“Collecting data App is bad (as everyone says) because it doesn’t care whether it satisfies you or not— you just need to snap your pic with your name attached and move on.”
“the only way to actually get a rating is by paying either 6.99 a week, 11.99 a month or god knows how much for the year, also the 3 day free trial that is said to be available, is ”
“Can’t get past the phone number verification phase”
Each quote is matched word for word against the review it came from before it is shown. Open any theme in the app to read the raw reviews behind it.
What a challenger would build
Written from the complaints, not from a hunch. This is the part that goes straight into a roadmap.
- A transparent scoring system with no fake upfront score; show the real harmony score freely and explain the calculation
- Actionable, specific guidance per metric (exercises, skincare, styling, procedures) instead of just a measurement dump
- A working free trial and a modest one-time unlock; currently the paywall blocks even the basic rating and the trial is broken
- On-device face analysis with no phone verification, no account gate, and no server-side face data to rebuild trust
- Progress tracking and re-scan history so users can see improvement over time, not just static numbers
And how the challenger should charge for it
Reviews are the clearest evidence there is of what a market will and will not pay for. We read the money complaints too, and say where to put the gate — not just what to build.
Freemium with honest scoring: free for first scan and real harmony score, then one-time unlock of the full detailed report and personalised improvement plan at $9.99–$14.99, or an optional subscription for ongoing progress tracking and monthly re-scans at $4.99/month (or $29.99/year). Avoid weekly auto-renew trap: reviewers are angry at $6.99/week and no trial.
After the first full scan and the real, un-gated harmony score. Charge to unlock the complete breakdown (individual metrics, explanations, and the actionable advice) and for re-scans beyond the first 3. Don't gate the actual score itself.
First scan, real harmony score, top 3 improvement areas, and one progress re-scan per month stay free so users can verify the app works and share results by word of mouth.
Plus the pricing mistakes costing this incumbent money right now — 4 of them, each traced back to the reviews complaining about it.
Rating over time, both stores
Underneath all of this sit the 43 reviews it was read from — searchable, filterable by star, language and country, and exportable to CSV, Excel or JSON at no credit cost. Run this on your own market.
Read the market before you build for it
Niche scan
- Pick a category and a country, get the apps users are most let down by
- Ranked by an opportunity score, with the reasoning shown
- Complaint themes grouped, so you see demand instead of noise
Quotes you can trust
- Every quote matched word for word against the source review
- If the model invents a quote, we drop the report rather than print it
- Open any finding to read the raw reviews behind it
Gaps per country
- An app can be loved in the US and hated in Germany
- Complaints in one language rarely reach the developer in another
- Country-level gaps carry the least competition
Weak-incumbent signals
- See whether the developer still replies to users
- Spot listings going stale — versions that stopped moving
- A busy category with an absent incumbent is the best kind
Both stores, one picture
- Link an iOS app to its Google Play counterpart
- Compare what breaks on each platform
- Google Play developer replies included
Read the evidence yourself
- Sort lowest rating first, filter by language, country, store
- Full-text search across every review you have pulled
- Rating trend charts over time
Watch a market
- Daily refresh on the apps you track
- Alerts to Slack, Telegram or Discord when the reviews turn
- Catch an incumbent slipping before anyone else does
Your data, portable
- CSV, Excel and JSON export at no credit cost
- Your workspace keeps everything you have pulled
- Refetch any time for fresh data
And where to put the paywall
Finding the gap is half of it. Every report also says how a challenger should charge — one-time unlock or subscription, the price band the reviews support, what has to stay free, and the exact point to gate: after the fifth category, the third export, the tenth round. Users write down what they refuse to pay for. We read that part too.
- The pricing model the complaints actually support
- Where the gate goes, in the app's own units
- What stays free so the app still spreads
- The pricing mistakes driving the incumbent's refunds
A category and a country. Or paste one app you already suspect is weak.
A slice of every market, both stores — so a gap in one country cannot hide.
Themes, an opportunity score, and the quotes that prove it.
Ship against real complaints instead of a hunch.
A scan costs 5 credits. A full report on one app costs 3. Your 5 free credits cover a whole scan, or a report plus two app pulls — see pricing.
Build what people already asked for
Choosing without evidence
- Building something nobody asked for
- Picking an idea from a Twitter thread
- Reading a handful of reviews in one language
- Guessing whether the market leader is beatable
- Finding out demand was thin after three months of work
- Copying a competitor without knowing what users hate about it
- Guessing a price and a paywall, then watching refunds come in
With Underserved
- Building against complaints people already wrote down
- Picking from a ranked list of unmet needs
- Reading every country and language at once
- Seeing whether the incumbent still shows up for users
- Knowing the size of the gap before you write code
- Knowing exactly which part of a competitor to beat
- Knowing where to put the paywall before you price it
For people deciding what to build
Indie developers
You can build almost anything. The hard part is choosing. Start from demand somebody already tried to pay for.
ASO and growth teams
Find the complaint themes a competitor never fixed, then aim your listing and your roadmap straight at them.
Studios and agencies
Screen a whole category in one pass and bring clients a shortlist backed by quotes, not opinions.
Frequently asked
What does Underserved actually do?
It reads the public reviews of apps in a market and tells you where users are being let down. You get complaint themes, an opportunity score per app, the gaps by country, and the quotes that support each finding.
Where does the data come from?
Public reviews on the Apple App Store and Google Play — the same ones any shopper can read before installing. No store login, no console access, and nothing private.
How do I know the AI is not making things up?
Every quote in a report is matched word for word against the review it came from before you see it. If a quote cannot be found in the source text, it is removed, and if too many are invented we throw the report away instead of showing it.
Do you store who wrote the reviews?
No. We keep what was said, never who said it. Reviewer names are not stored, not exported and not shown.
Is this a subscription?
Credit packs are a one-time purchase and credits never expire. Only the yearly plan renews. A niche scan costs 5 credits and a full report costs 3.
What can I do for free?
Every account starts with 5 credits and no card — a full niche scan, or an opportunity report plus two app pulls. Browsing, filtering, search, charts, cross-store comparison and CSV, Excel or JSON export never cost credits at all.
